Artist Biography
A North Idaho native, Daniel Taylor has been studying Fine Art and Music at North Idaho College (NIC) since 2018. His favorite mediums are colored pencils, watercolors, oils, and sculpture. Bringing a distinctive perspective to his work, Daniel draws on his background as an Electrical Engineer, incorporating electrical and scientific themes in his art. Botanicals and still lifes are also prominent subjects throughout his portfolio. Realism, cubism, and cartoons are his favorite styles.
Most recently, Daniel donated a beautifully framed watercolor painting of a purple Orchid to the Music Conservatory for its silent auction in the fall of 2025. He has actively exhibited in the Boswell Corner Gallery and Aspiring Artists art show over multiple semesters since he first started at NIC. Outside of traditional art, he released a video game on Steam titled “Mr. Blob’s Honey-Do List”. He drew all the digital pixel art and composed multiple scores. He plans to finish his Associates of Arts Degree in the Fall of 2026.

Artist Statement
I started learning art to bring meaning to my life. In this way each piece I do is built around a personal goal or made with a certain intention in mind. Every piece has a story to tell. You will notice I have a detailed description of each painting's backstory for this reason.
In terms of style, I employ Realism and Cubism with a sprinkle of Abstraction. Colored pencils, being my favorite medium, lend themselves well to fine detail, while oil and watercolor allow for more fluid play with abstraction and are easier to create larger paintings with. In the future I want to learn stone sculpting techniques to bring more ideas to the tangible world.
My personal goal is to bring back the joy of traditional art to the modern world. Think of 1800s French portraits for your profile picture, 17th century landscapes of North Idaho, or Romanesque marble sculptures downtown. Even more modern, what would it look like if Albrecht Dürer made watercolor paintings for the background of a video game?
Resume
I absolutely love watercolor pencils! This entire painting is done with Derwent traditional watercolor pencils and Inktense pencils. The black on the cat is india ink.
I made this as advertising art for my first video game, Mr. Blob's Honey-Do List which is now available on Steam. The idea came from seeing painterly art from other games as their concept or advertising art.
This is my first successful abstract. It started as a cubist inspired painting with square colors in the background and a tree simplified to cylanders, cones, and circles. The rest followed and it started to take on different meaning. I knew it was a successful abstract when I wasn't entirely sure what I was looking at. What do you read out of it?
Music
The theme of this song is two artificial life forms caught in a lover's qaurrel. The voices were created using two Moog Mother 32 units and a Behringer Neutron. The title's inspiration emerged from the blend of analog synthesis and the emotional duet of them communicating. Special thanks to Keith Stack for working with me on this.
Electrical Engineering

Major Projects
Currently at Itron I lead a team that tests electric meters to ensure there are no bugs or issues before releasing them into mass production. At HP I designed touch screen panels found on many of their high end laserjet printers. Please see the pictures below for examples of each.
For more detailed information about these projects and many of my other technical skills please see my resume below.
